    Opte2KML is a simple script that converts vector data generated by the Opte project to Google Earth's KML format.

    Required Components

    Before you can generate Opte map, you must obtain the following components

    Maxmind GeoLiteCity Database

    Maxmind provides an excellent GeoIP City level database for free. You have to download the latest binary (dat) version of the database here:


    Geo::IP Perl Module

    Geo::IP Perl Module is necessary to interface with Maxmind's GeoIPLiteCity.dat database. You can install it as follows:

    cpan Geo::IP

    Opte Edge Data

    At last you need to obtain the latest .edgecolors file from Opte's site here:


    Running Opte2KML

    Once you have downloaded all of the necessary files and places them in the same directory, you can execute the script with the following command:

    $ perl opte2kml.pl output.kml

    Load the output.kml file in Google earth and enjoy the view!
